Michael Kastelic
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota, majoring in Biology on the pre-medical track. I graduated from Duluth East High School in 2023 and have been involved in cancer research at the Masonic Cancer Center for the past two years. I previously conducted research in the Largaespada Lab and am now a member of the Davydova Lab. Outside of the laboratory, I serve as a board member for the Undergraduate Surgery Interest Group, tutor athletes at the Lindhal Academic Center, and work as a CNA at Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital. I am interested in cancer biology, translational medicine, and the development of novel cancer therapies.
Research and responsibilities in the lab: I focus on molecular and cellular biology techniques, including qPCR, DNA extraction, cell seeding, and viral assay analysis. In collaboration with my mentor, Margarita Romanenko, I conduct crystal violet assays to evaluate viral infectivity and assist with TCID50 assays as part of ongoing virotherapy research projects. I present findings at various research symposiums and scientific events.
